Maple Syrup Meets Avocado: 5 Recipes That Sound Weird But Slap

Look, I know what you’re thinking. “Maple syrup and avocado? Together? On purpose?”

Yes. On purpose. And once you try these recipes, you’ll wonder why it took this long for someone to unite Canada’s two greatest food obsessions. Maple syrup is sweet, rich, and viscous. Avocado is creamy, mild, and fatty. Together, they create something that’s hard to describe and impossible to stop eating.

Here are five maple-avo recipes we’ve tested, retested, and then tested again because we “needed to make sure.”

1. Maple Glazed Avocado Toast

The gateway recipe. This is how you start your maple-avo journey.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado (obviously, from AvocadoNorth)
  • 2 slices of sourdough, toasted
  • 1 tablespoon real Quebec maple syrup
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Red pepper flakes

Method: Smash the avocado on toast. Drizzle with maple syrup. Hit it with salt and pepper flakes. The sweet-salty-spicy combination will genuinely change your morning.

Weirdness Level: 2/10 — this one’s a gentle introduction.

2. The Maple Avo Smoothie

For when you want to drink your feelings (the good ones).

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup oat milk
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • Handful of ice

Method: Blend everything until smooth. The avocado makes it impossibly creamy without tasting “green.” The maple syrup ties it all together. You’ll tell yourself it’s a health smoothie, and you know what? It kind of is.

Weirdness Level: 3/10 — surprisingly normal once you taste it.

3. Maple Bacon Guacamole

The recipe that started a fight at our office potluck (in a good way).

Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 4 strips of thick-cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • Salt to taste

Method: Make guacamole as you normally would. Fold in the crumbled bacon. Drizzle in the maple syrup and stir gently. The sweetness of the maple cuts through the richness of the avocado and the saltiness of the bacon in a way that’s frankly unfair.

Weirdness Level: 5/10 — you’ll feel conflicted. Then you’ll eat the whole bowl.

4. Maple Avocado Ice Cream

No ice cream maker needed. Just patience and a freezer.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 can full-fat coconut milk
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Method: Blend everything smooth. Pour into a freezer-safe container. Freeze for 4-6 hours, stirring every hour or so. The result is a creamy, pale-green ice cream that tastes like a maple sugar shack met a tropical island. Kids love it. Adults love it more.

Weirdness Level: 7/10 — green ice cream raises questions. The taste answers them.

5. Maple Avocado Vinaigrette

The one that’ll make your salads actually exciting.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper

Method: Blend everything until smooth and creamy. Drizzle over mixed greens, roasted vegetables, or honestly just a bowl of rice. This dressing is so good it makes you want to eat salad, which might be the most powerful thing a condiment can do.

Weirdness Level: 4/10 — it’s a salad dressing. How weird can it be? (Very. In the best way.)

The Takeaway

Maple syrup and avocado aren’t just compatible — they’re meant for each other. Like hockey and cold weather. Like Tim Hortons and road trips. Like saying “sorry” and meaning it.

Try one of these recipes this weekend. Start with the toast if you’re cautious. Go straight to the ice cream if you’re bold. Either way, you’ll be glad you did.
